The idea behind Barnebys came about when its founders realised just how difficult it was to navigate the art world. After many hours spent searching the web, the results were practically fruitless: there was nowhere to access the world’s art and antiques in one place.

The concept of Barnebys was to tackle thishead on: to put auction houses and dealersat the forefront, to make them easily accessible from only the click of a keyboard – and, of course, to help auction houses and dealers maintain their customer relationships.

Recently, the art and antique market has undergone dramatic changes. Until now, flipping through a catalogue required not only the effort to actually get a hold of one, but also a need to know the industry inside out. Auction houses and dealers mainly focused on a small group of sellers and bidders, resembling a clique rather than a market. However, this is no longer the case: all over the world more and more people are buying art and antiques, which means that the industry is growing – both in buyers and in objects.

Barnebys has managed to make all of theseauctions more available, by gathering themtogether in one place. By opening up the market, art, design and antiquities are now just a click away and accessible for everyone to enjoy.
