What is a wingback chair?
A wingback chair is recognisable thanks to the two 'winged' panels on either side of the back rest, protruding forward. These usually connect to the armrest, however more contemporary designs may not follow this design.

Created in the 17th century, a wingback chair was made with comfort in mind. The wings were designed to block out any drafts, whilst also trapping heat that came from the fireplace, as these types of chairs would traditionally be found in front of the fire.
