Ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, LAPADA (The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers) is hosting an online exhibition. The display features a curation of memorabilia and historic pieces from their members’ stock. The pieces included in the exhibition span the centuries with a variety of items, from a rare Victorian tea cosy to a Regency carved giltwood sofa, all with Royal connections.
Key pieces featuring in the exhibition:
Royal Regency Carved Giltwood Sofa
This Regency carved giltwood sofa with Windsor Castle provenance was made to designs by George Smith and attributed to Tatham, Bailey and Saunders, circa 1812. It bears a stamp "WINDSOR CASTLE ROOM 250", as well as the inventory label B250, and signed in script R. Golly, Oct 8th. 1828, when it would have been recovered. This sofa is from John Bly Antiques.
Pair of Victorian Corner Cabinets
This exquisite pair of Victorian neoclassical corner cabinets of Windsor Castle provenance will be included in the exhibition thanks to Mayfair Gallery. The royal connection here is a stamp to the reverse of each cabinet, indicating that they were included in an inventory of Windsor Castle carried out in 1866.
Royal Guests Arriving
Another wonderful Royal item featured is this study by Feliks Topolski, the great chronicler of British pageantry in the last century. Offered by Panter & Hall, the piece depicts royal guests arriving to HRH Prince Charles & Diana's wedding.
Victorian Bead & Wool Work Tea Cosy
LAPADA member J Collins & Son Antiques have contributed this extremely rare Victorian patriotic double sided bead and wool work tea cosy, worked on a dark green ground and each side displaying the Royal Coat of Arms. The base has the worked words, 'Dieu et Mon Droit' (God is on my Right), and it's in remarkably fine condition throughout, with unfaded colour tones. This piece will be of much interest to serious collectors.
1897 Diamond Jubilee Clock
A lovely piece of Royal memorabilia courtesy of Butchoff Antiques, this Jubilee Clock from 1897 was made for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee by Camerer, Kuss & Co. This is a one-of-kind clock with both the design and movement complete one-offs.
