Oh Christmas tree
This Italianate villa was constructedin the 1840s and became a much- loved residence for our VIP, with every Christmas and New Year spent hereafter her husband’s death. Christmas was a more sober affair than at the usual residence, but there would have been a tree with gifts underneath, and a sumptuous feast would be served. In the New Year there was a tradition for charming tableaux vivants, performed by members of the household.
